Newsletter 2008

Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Yet another fabulous year where the unique combination of location, staff and guests (not to mention wall to wall sunshine and plenty of reasons to celebrate) have given us one of our most successful seasons so far. And while we sit back for a well earned rest in the winter months, we have plenty of happy memories to look back on. We know that you do too and sincerely hope that, despite rising airline costs and the increased hassle of passing through international airports, you will still consider returning to Yakamoz in 2008.

First of all our usual round of thank you’s to the many customers who have provided us with a range of supplies that we can’t get out here (life is just not worth living without mint jelly and Shaun the Sheep videos) and thank you too to both Christine Eglington and Marian Hancock for taking stock of expanding waistlines and helping us with Weight Watcher recipes and advice. Sue and I promise to be slim and svelte next year….!

Thanks also to Brian and Linda Kennedy who brought out some excellent photo’s for our archive which we continue to compile. And thanks to all who came to Jan’s 50th Birthday Party in April. Oh what a night!

The changing faces at Yakamoz
Thanks to all our guests who have expressed continued concern about Mike’s health problems during 2007. We are delighted to say that the doctors in the UK have given him a very thorough MOT and pronounced him fit for purpose. Mike has now decided that his purpose in life is to write for a living so has officially ‘retired’ from Yakamoz to concentrate on his penmanship. Not content to have one ‘unusual’ offspring, his parents produced two more. One who is quite normal and Sue who has slotted into the space that Mike vacated with very little actual effort so life goes on at Yakamoz……
Charity News
Our fund raising activities continued during 2007 and contributions from regular quizzes and our Annual Holiday raffle amounted to the grand sum of £700 which has already been donated to Breakthough – a charity that supports both women and men who are affected by breast cancer.

The very worthy winners of our raffle to win a Free Holiday at Yakamoz in 2008 including flights, were Doug and Jenny White from Middlesex. Once again, two regular Yakamozers whom we are thrilled to be welcoming back With Compliments next year. The draw was made on October 14 by the winning team of our End of Season Quiz in the Yakamoz restaurant, observed by all other participants. Congratulations Jenny & Doug!

Up coming attractions 2008……

Family Funtime
One of our undoubted successes of 2007 was our Family Fortnight which was inadvertently extended to 4 weeks on account of the fact that we had a family booking that took the entire hotel at the end of the month! Yes, 25 adults and 15 children all of whom were related and out to have fun – and just like the families who were here prior to their visit, we engaged in pirate cruises, late night pool parties and treasure hunts for our younger guests. Our 2008 programme for families has now been extended from 25 July to 31 August. During most of that period we are delighted to announce that we will have an Activities Co-ordinator at the hotel who will be helping to ensure that all family members, (whatever their age) who holiday with us this year have a great time.

A Very Special Party
There will be hearts breaking all over the world when our lady guests learn that our very own Ibo has lost his heart to the Lovely Lizzie Allen and they are having a party to celebrate their engagement here at Yakamoz on August 27. Another reason that our family time has been extended is to enable those guests who want to help celebrate with Lizzie and Ibo to get themselves out here. It’s going to be fun! Discounted accommodation rates will apply from August 19 to previous Yakamoz guests who have stayed with us between 2004 and 2007 so please call us for details.

Something to Celebrate?
We know that we are getting really rather good at catering for large parties, anniversaries other ‘Special Occasions’ because you have told us so. We really do enjoy the challenge and the fun that such an event provides so if you have reason to celebrate during 2008 whether it is just two of you or a larger group then please let us know and we will do all we can to assist.

Special Offers and Events. Please see the appropriate page elsewhere on our website. We would love to see you in 2008!

Important Information for 2008
Flights & Availability for 2008

Many of our colleagues in the independent tourist industry in this area are already reporting increased demand for 2008 when compared to 2007 and we are no exception. However, as ever, there is still plenty of availability here at Yakamoz at the time of writing. Please remember though, that the earlier you book your flights, the cheaper they are likely to be. Updated suggestions for flight providers can be found on our website page on How To Get Here – and due to new Government Legislation, internet flight providers have to declare EXACTLY how much you are paying for your flight INCLUDING TAX when they quote – there are extra costs involved (such as meals and leg room etc) but none of the costs are hidden.

New Transfer Charges
Due to changes of legislation in the tourism industry in Turkey during 2007, running costs of LEGITIMATE AND LICENCED transfer operators have increased. And as we only used fully licensed and insured transfer agents, our transfer costs have increased accordingly. During 2007 we absorbed these costs from July onwards but cannot do so next year. We have therefore reviewed the way we charge for our transfers and decided to charge a set price per person for parties of 4 or more. Parties of up to 3 persons will be charged a set price for their transport. Please be assured that we have kept any increases to an absolute minimum and know that the service we provide offers a quality transfer experience and still represents excellent value for money.

New Payment Arrangements from May 2008
Traditionally, we have happily taken sterling currency when guests settle their bills at Yakamoz. Due to the increased strength of the Turkish Lira and the consistently weaker pound, it is no longer feasible for us to continue daily payment in this way. With effect from the beginning of the 2008 season, all bills settled at reception should be paid in Turkish Lira. This does not affect payments made to our UK bank or on balances paid on arrival. We will of course happily exchange currency for you should you wish. However, it will naturally be advantageous to you to change your holiday money at the regulated Exchange Offices in Hisaronu or in Fethiye.

STOP PRESS!

Extra Information

Want to keep in touch with Fethiye all year?
Then all you have to do is log on to www.fethiyetimes.com to stay abreast of all manner of happenings in the locality. From time to time there is also news about new flight deals and things to see and do in the area.

A way to get those authentic Turkish Gifts Home
With continuing and tighter restrictions on weight and content of your luggage, many of our guests have lusted after some of the quite exquisite quality souvenirs and giftware available here, only to be dismayed at their inability to get it home. We have found a wonderful supplier, known to us locally (so we can re-assure you of a quality service). So try our friend Nichola at www.theturkishtradingcompany.com to get those special gifts at very special prices (and no problems with the language)!

All of us at Yakamoz wish our guests past and present (and those still to discover us) the very best of fortune during 2008.

Come and see us – it’s GORGEOUS!

Jan & Sue
